The World as a Hundred People

I find things like this interesting when attempting comprehension of the global statistics. Obviously, details are skimmed and large groups are collapsed, but there is still some use.

Here in Japan students often read a passage called if the world was a village. This is basically a monologue which contains most of the facts stated on this page. I find these statistics dubiously exagerated and over simplified. But the underlying message that we lucky few in developed nations have it far better than most is undeniable.
